The Araneoidea superfamily includes many families of spiders specialized in building orb-shaped spiral webs – those classic geometric structures. Species in this group are widespread and often seen in gardens, hedgerows, woodlands, and even window frames. Their web is a highly effective hunting tool, combining geometric structure, adhesive silk, and sensitivity to vibration. Araneoidea notably includes the families Araneidae (orb-weavers), Theridiidae (cobweb spiders), and Nephilidae (large tropical web-builders). This group is an excellent example of evolutionary adaptation in passive, trap-based hunting.
