Pholcoidea – Cellar Spider Superfamily

The Pholcoidea superfamily includes slender spiders with thin, elongated legs, known for weaving irregular webs in quiet corners of homes or caves. Their graceful morphology makes them easily recognizable. Some species can rapidly vibrate their web when threatened, a remarkable defensive behavior. The widespread genus Pholcus is typical of this group. Although often feared because of their appearance, these spiders are completely harmless to humans and help regulate insect populations indoors.

The Pholcoidea superfamily primarily includes the Pholcidae, also known as “cellar spiders,” recognizable by their elongated bodies and very long, thin legs.

They build irregular, tangled webs, often in dark corners of houses, caves, or under rocks in tropical environments.
