Thomisoidea
The Thomisoidea superfamily includes hunting spiders, often well camouflaged and positioned in ambush to catch their prey. They are mainly represented by two families:
- Thomisidae, or crab spiders, recognizable by their sideways stance and their ability to move laterally.
- Philodromidae, more agile and faster, often confused with Thomisidae but with longer legs.
These spiders do not build capture webs but rely on stealth, speed, and camouflage.
🌿 Where to find them?
- On flowers (especially Thomisidae)
- On leaves, bark, or tree trunks
- In open, well-lit areas, often lying in wait during the day
